How might I help you?
I use a variety of therapeutic techniques based on what makes the most sense for your exploration.
Somatic Experiencing
Our bodies carry all our stories, feelings, emotions, and experiences. We are starting to understand much more about how our past influences us from a physiological perspective. “Talk therapy” is helpful, but when we allow our bodies and nervous systems to take the lead, we can begin to experience true healing. Physical health is tied to mental health through the mind-body-gut connection. Many ailments such as chronic pain, IBS, autoimmune disorders and lethargy are often related to our emotions and can be improved if we start understanding the message our body is sending us.
I have completed my 3-year Somatic Experiencing training, and completing the certification process. Somatic Experiencing is designed to treat a variety of ailments such as the ones noted above, as well as resolving physical and emotional symptoms related to trauma/PTSD, chronic stress/fatigue, fear, anger, anxiety, shame, health conditions or complex syndromes, as well as in restoring boundaries, regulation, resiliency, empowerment, and a healthy sense of self.
For information specific to Somatic Experiencing, which may or may not involve the use of touch, please read this.
Compassionate Inquiry
Compassionate inquiry is an approach to therapy designed by Dr. Gabor Mate, a brilliant author and MD with a world of knowledge surrounding the impacts of our childhood experiences and traumas. As a Certified Compassionate Inquiry Practitioner, I use the skills learned through this intensive training program to promote exploration of our mind and bodily experiences. The approach focuses on making connections between your body, emotions and mind, and how these affect our daily functioning. Our body remembers things our brain doesn’t, and this can impact us as adults in many ways.
Trauma Counselling
Our past experiences influence who we are as adults. Exploration of this can be life changing. Even when we have great childhoods and lives, our feelings and perceptions of situations have an impact on us. You don’t even need to share your story (if you have one) to begin healing. Compassion and curiosity lead the way to a better understanding of yourself as well as how to begin healing in a way that makes sense for you.
Psychedelic Integration
The research is coming and its coming fast, showing that there can be value in using psychedelics for emotional healing. It takes some work to determine if it’s right for you, but if it is, it can be profound. Of course, I do not endorse nor provide substances for clients due to legal and ethical implications. However, I am trained in basic psychedelic integration, meaning that if you choose to do this on your own, I am happy to provide a judgement-free, therapeutic space for processing your experience. The most effective approach is to meet with me prior to your experience, as well as after. However - if you took a psychedelic-inducing substance that has left you with some questions or unprocessed emotions, I am happy to support you. For more information on whether the use of psychedelics are right for you, contact me for your free consult!
Alternative Healing
One of my strengths is recognizing where I can be helpful and when I need to call in back up. I love exploring new ways of healing and am happy to recommend other amazing people in the area who do things differently than I. This can be anything from trauma healing through body work, to a connection to nature via forest therapy. There are many wonderful resources in our community that we can tap into in order to better ourselves- yoga, mindfulness, equine therapy, breath work, chakra healing and energy work, horticulture, etc. There is truly something for everyone.
